Foundations of Fundamental Research
PHI Lab: Yoshihisa Yamamoto

Dr. Yamamoto pursues next-generation computing systems including quantum and neuromorphic approaches. Just as importantly, he endeavors to train a new generation of scientists, employing an “Open Laboratory” strategy that puts top PHI Lab scientists to work inside world renowned research universities.

At the convergence of physics, computer science and neuroscience, NTT Research pursues a powerful, new computer to solve previously unsolvable combinatorial problems. Explorations that were too time-consuming and cost-prohibitive to consider may soon occur in seconds. The process for developing new drugs to address devastating illnesses may take mere hours or days instead of decades – meaning new computing technology could ultimately save millions of lives.

See what the intersection of physics, neuroscience and computer science looks like in our PHI Lab.
